Convatec –MS SharePoint Implementation
Convatec New York based company Gigapixel came to us with an interesting project: To create a corporate extranet for one of their clients, Convatec, using the Microsoft SharePoint server.
Project Journal Entry: Our SharePoint specialists integrated a custom theme for the home and inner pages. Additionally, we created several team sites for various departments such as IT, HR, Finance, Legal, etc. Several Web parts were also developed to handle custom navigation and to integrate rich user experience.
A “custom fit”
The BusBank is the largest provider of Charter Bus and Group and Event transportation services in the nation. They
require a suite of collaborative software connecting their vendors, clients and sales staff. In the end, we ended up created a CRM
that integrated with their existing order management system, an online customer portal for their clients to track orders, a product
called The RedBox that tracked included GPS tracking and location based intelligence services.
Project Journal Entry: Wow, what a project and what a client! For some clients the “off the shelf” solution
just isn’t the best fit. That was the case for The BusBank who was actually using Salesforce at the time and looking to find a
different solution to save costs as well as have more integration with their custom order management system. Several collaborative
portals, a CRM and a couple custom applications later they have become to be one of our most long standing clients. And guess what,
now we’re even working on a Sharepoint implementation for them.
Would you believe this is SugarCRM?
Plum Tree Group (Our Parent Company by the way) needed a custom solution to manage everything from leads to projects
as well as basic HR and time tracking activities. We used SugarCRM as the base and from there integrated DotProject (an open source
project management solution); a Wiki, a bunch of custom modules including a Time Card and integrated all of that with a custom intranet
that was created to store documents and provide a central place for users to track their career goals.
Project Journal Entry: This was a fun project. It was sort of like we created a mini-ERP complete with a
function to allow employees to input their quarterly goals as well as give 360 degree feedback on their colleagues. We really like
SugarCRM and think it can be an ideal solution for small businesses and even mid sized companies looking for a CRM solution that can be
customized. As with all internal projects though, it’s never as high of a priority as the client projects and this was no different.
We often had to stop our work in favor of a new project but hey, new projects are even more fun!
Pushing Sharepoint WSS
Kamylon Capital, a principal investment firm based in Boston, manages more than a billion dollars of capital primarily
dedicated to preserving and enhancing the value of the businesses in its portfolio. They required a platform which
connected them with their portfolio companies providing robust functionality such as project management, workflow engine
and communication services.
Project Journal Entry: This was one of our toughest Sharepoint implementations. Kamylon Capital
came to us with a bold request…they wanted essentially all the functionality of Central Desktop, basecamp (the two
leading online project management softwares) plus a bunch of other custom features – and we had to do it using Sharepoint
WSS.
Building a Salesforce app for the App Exchange
Collablab was hired by eIntelli to extend their functionality and reach of their current eProposal product
by integrating it with Salesforce. eProposal allows its members the ability to create online proposals, estimates and quotes
as well as get real time business intelligence such as proposal feedback, pricing data, and usage reports. eProposal was built
using Adobe Flex and so our Flex team had to integrate with Salesforce using Salesforce’s specific SDK for Flex developers.
Project Journal Entry: We have built extensions for SugarCRM but this was our first application
extension for Salesforce. I must say that it went a bit smoother than we were expecting. As a Salesforce partner we have
a portal which provides essentially everything we need to create custom Salesforce apps including tutorials, sample code
and access to forums. The best part about this project was learning more about eProposal…what an awesome sales tool!
Idenix
Idenix is a pharmaceutical company and they were looking to build an Intranet portal using Microsoft Office
SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007. The goal of this project was to provide a collaborative environment where Idenix employees can
exchange and facilitate information. They wanted to have a separate site for each of the departments with a robust security
model in place.
Project Journal Entry: This was our first SharePoint project for a large size organization. Some of
the SharePoint features implemented in this project include: announcements, event management, news, links and content
management with design integration. Additionally, we integrated Active Directory (AD) with SharePoint and build a custom
contact viewer web part that displayed AD users within SharePoint. Various custom templates were designed and integrated
for different departments within the organization.
Even Bowlers need Social Networking
The Bowling Network was the brainchild of a professional bowler (who will remain undisclosed for now). He was
initially just looking to create a place for bowlers and bowling enthusiasts to network, share videos and promote
events/tournaments.
Project Journal Entry: We created The Bowling Network as a custom solution before all the open
source social networking platforms became available. This was our first attempt at a social networking application and
we’re pretty proud of it, and have used the underlying model for other social networking sites as well. It comes complete with
all the major social networking features and even includes an “evite” like invitation and event management feature.
Integration Sharepoint with Microsoft Dynamics CRM
Ridgewine Winery was looking for a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 integration with Microsoft
CRM 4.0. They were using MOSS calendar to create events and wanted an ability to tie an event to accounts and contacts in CRM.
They wanted to pull the list of contacts and accounts in CRM and have an ability to assign an event to a contact or account.
Additionally, they wanted a calendar activity to be created in CRM against a corresponding contact and/or account.
Project Journal Entry: This was an interesting project as this gave us a chance to explore SharePoint
integration with MS CRM. We implemented a pull down list for CRM contacts and accounts in the MOSS Event calendar and
provided an ability to associate an event to a CRM contact or account. Additionally, we customized MOSS calendar event such
that when a user added a MOSS calendar event it got added as an activity to a corresponding CRM contact or account. With this
feature users could directly access MOSS calendar event from a corresponding CRM activity.
Showing Some iCompassion
iCompassion is a Virginia non-stock corporation, registered as a Section 501 (c)(3) non profit organization
with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. iCompassion partners with related non-profit organizations and other charitable donors
to support early screening, detection and treatment of chronic kidney disease. They needed an application that supported the
ability to create online communities, share knowledge and resources and receive donations.
Project Journal Entry:The founders of iCompassion approached us after having a bad experience with
an offshore organization. They were considering an off the shelf solution but also needed a very custom look and feel and
some specific functionalities that were unique to their organization. After reviewing other solutions we ended up repurposing
a custom social networking application that we had done before and adding additional features. For obvious reasons this
project was also a labor of love and we donated more than half the value of the application as pro bono work.
